Tribs win third straight title
CHAUTAUQUA, NY - The Monroe Community College golf team came through with a clutch performance in the final round of the NJCAA Division III national tournament, overcoming a three-stroke deficit to win the program's third straight national title.
MCC trailed Cincinnati State after three rounds before responding with a team score of 294 Friday to finish at 1,216 overall. Rock Valley CC was next at 1,227, followed by Cincinnati State at 1,228 and Genesee CC at 1,240.
Alex McKee (Newmarket, ON/Sir William Mulock) shot an even-par 72 to finish as the tournament's individual medalist with an overall score of 297. The sophomore was also named a first team NJCAA All-American,
Shane Dobesh (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) also shot a 72, while Mike Catalano (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Tim McCall (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) carded 75s. Dobesh and Catalano both placed inside the Top 15 to earn honorable mention All-American laurels.
Anthony Colosi (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) rounded out the potent attack with a 77 on Friday.
It was the fourth national title overall for the MCC golf team. The Tribunes also won in 2006, 2009, and 2010.
