Tribs roll into break with win over Erie
BUFFALO, NY - The MCC ice hockey team rolled into its winter break with an 8-2 victory over Erie CC Tuesday evening.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Tribunes, who are 15-1 and ranked No. 1 in the nation. It was their second win over Erie this season.
Eight different players scored for Monroe, which is 7-0 against Region III opponents. Four of the goals came on the power play during a five-minute major in the third period to secure the win.
David Roberts (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Dan Turgeon (Centennial, CO/Cherokee Trail) got the Tribunes on the board with first-period goals. Erie and Monroe then traded goals in the second, and MCC led 4-2 entering the third.
The Tribunes then took advantage on the power play to put it away.
Erich Haney (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) and TJ Reilley (Rome, NY/Rome Free) scored 58 seconds apart to make it 6-2. Goals by Zach McDonald (Billings, MT/Skyview) and Brian Holcomb (Massena, NY/Massena) provided the final margin.
Tom Dehr (Varysburg, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) stopped 18 shots in goal for Monroe.
Holcomb, Matt Johnston (Calgary, AB/Bishop O' Brien), and Dan Going (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) all finished with two assists.
MCC is off until Jan. 20.
