Meet the Coaches
Head Coach
Mike Kelly (sixth year, 181-99)

Mike Kelly enters his sixth season as head coach for the MCC Tribunes. Kelly, an assistant from 1999-2007, led MCC to a school-record 41 wins in 2008 and an unprecedented third-place finish at the NJCAA Division II World Series. He has been named the Region III Coach of the Year four times and was named District Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
Coach Kelly played his high school ball at Aquinas Institute, leading the Irish for three years at the varsity level. Kelly then played two years at MCC, helping the team to a Region III, Division I championship during his freshman year in 1996. He received the Coach's Award for his dedication and hard work ethic that same year. He batted over .400 in 1997 and was given the prestigious David Johns Memorial Award while also being named to the All-Region team.
Kelly then took his talents to SUNY Brockport (1998-99), where he caught for two years and helped the Golden Eagles to a pair of successful seasons. He was also named to the SUNYAC All-Academic team.
Kelly has worked with pitchers and catchers during his time as an assistant with MCC. He has also serves as the third-base coach. He was a head coach in the New York Collegiate Baseball League for three years.
Coach Kelly is also the head Athletic Academic Advisor at MCC.
Assistant coach
Dave Brust
Brust, in his ninth year, works with MCC hitters and also serves as the bench coach. After a year at the University of Maryland, he came back to Monroe where he hit .423 with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs in 1987. He was a third team All-American selection for the Tribunes, splitting time between shortstop and catcher.
Brust then went on to play at Ball State, where he was the captain and team MVP in 1988 and 1989. He also earned a Mid-American Conference All-Conference selection in 1989. Brust, a 1985 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School where he earned all-Greater Rochester honors for both baseball and basketball, played professionally in the Atlanta Braves organization from 1989 to 1992. Two of those seasons were spent playing for the Durham Bulls under former Boston Red Sox and Los Angles Dodger manager Grady Little.
Brust earned his bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 1989. He completed his master’s degree from Brockport State in 2003. Brust teaches in the Spencerport Central School District. Burst was the head coach and general manager of the Webster Yankees of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. During his tenure with the Yankees, Brust oversaw the development of several players that have moved on to the professional ranks: Cory Brownsten (Atlanta Braves organization), Dan Jurik (Atlanta Braves), Pat Urckfitz (Houston Astros), Marcus Nidiffer (Houston Astros), Gary Helmick (Baltimore Orioles), Jason Stifler (Baltimore Orioles), Bryan Gardner (Cincinnati Reds), and Jordan Petraitis (Chicago Cubs). He also coached the 2004 Genesee Valley Riverbats and the 2006 Rochester Royals in the NYCBL.
Assistant Coach
Tony Fuller
Fuller is in his third year as a coach in the MCC baseball program. He assists with infielders and hitters and coaches first base. He also handles recruiting and coordination of camps.
As a player, Fuller helped lead the Tribunes to regional titles in 2005 and 2006. He was an All-Region selection his sophomore season as MCC set a then-school record with 40 wins. He continued on and played two years at the University of Buffalo, where he was also a volunteer assistant coach. He has also been the head coach of the Braman Post American Legion team. Fuller is currently the manager of the Hornell Dodgers of the NYCBL.
